The complexity of worldwide crises such as climate change and pollution can feel overwhelming to the individual who wants to make a difference but doesn’t know where to start. Despite making small changes such as foregoing straws and trading in plastic bottles for hydro flasks, deep down most of us harbor some guilt about not doing enough to save the planet. At the end of the day we wonder if our children and grandchildren will have clean air to breathe and fresh water to drink, and whether our actions will have been enough to ensure a healthy planet for generations to come.

At KAHUenergy we provide a concrete, tangible solution to the seemingly insurmountable problem of cleaning up the planet. By converting any waste – including hazardous materials and plastics – into clean energy, we offer a pathway to a sustainable future. Our cutting edge plasma gasification technology keeps waste out of landfills and greenhouse gasses out of the air. By 2026 we expect to prevent over 200,000 tons of CO2 equivalent emissions from entering the atmosphere, processing 85 tons of waste daily by 2025 and 500 tons daily by 2026. Our goal is to make a significant dent in the pressing problem of waste management0.

We recognize the reality that we live in a consumerist economy that values the production of stuff. The global economy is still wasteful, linear and overly reliant on fossil fuels. The Economist reports that more than 90% of the resources extracted and consumed do not return to the production cycles but become waste. The U.S. alone produces 268 million tons of waste — 140 million going into landfills — each year, with the average American tossing 4.5 pounds of trash per day. Globally humans dump a massive 2.12 billion tons of waste – which if put on trucks would go around the world 24 times. Faced with the devastating impacts of climate change and environmental degradation, we cannot rely on idealism alone to get us out of this mess.

By cleaning up the planet one ton at a time, KAHUenergy protects the earth from toxic waste while simultaneously creating a source of clean energy. Our team is passionate about keeping poisons out of the land, air and sea. As stewards of the environment, we value our role as honored caretakers and guardians (or in Hawaiian, “kahu”). We embrace our responsibility to care for the planet, devoting our careers to creating positive environmental change. More than that, we inspire and empower people to be part of the solution.
